Since March 2019, the National Youth Development Council (NYDC) has in partnership with FHI 360 been implementing the USAID-funded Youth Lead Activity Zambia Programme. The general aim of this three (3)-year programme is to train youth into Civic Leaders and Community Developers. Critical to the successful implementation of the Youth Lead Work Plan are the undertaking of three (3) youth-centred activities and two (2) youth-led campaigns.
Correspondingly, the NYDC and FHI 360 held a Youth Consultative Meeting on Wednesday 24th February, 2021 at its office in Lusaka. The event served as a platform to engage the youth in the identification and planning of youth-centred activities to be coordinated in the areas of Governance, Entrepreneurship and Environmental Protection.
Participating youth and youth organisations comprised of representatives from World Wildlife Fund (WWF), NYDC, FHI 360, Youth Lead, Agents for Change (ACF), Youth Unite Zambia, Ganizo Zambia, Youth Bridge Foundation, Calo Cesu, Waste With Value (WWV), Young Women in Action (YWA), Zambia Youth Platform, Centre for Young Leaders in Africa (CYLA), Yashani Multipurpose Centre, Zambia Empowerment Hub for Entrepreneurs and Skills Training (ZEHEST), Centre for Youth Development Services (C4YDS), Zambia Initiative for Community Development, and United Nations Youth Association (YUNA).
At the end of an interactive and deliberative Consultative Meeting, the youth gathered settled on carrying out the following actions:
